Public Notice: Unauthorized Messages Sent from MOG’s Verified WhatsApp Account

MOG Group of Companies (“MOG Eyewear”) would like to alert our valued customers, partners, and stakeholders that unauthorized messages containing fraudulent links were recently distributed from MOG’s verified WhatsApp Business account.

Following an internal investigation, we have confirmed that this incident occurred as a result of unauthorized access to our account, which has since been secured and restored. The fraudulent messages included phishing links and fake hotel reservation content, and were not sent by MOG or any of our authorized representatives.

We strongly urge all recipients to:

  • Avoid clicking on any suspicious links contained within the fraudulent messages.
  • Refrain from sharing any personal or financial information through the affected WhatsApp messages.
  • Verify any communications from MOG through our official channels listed on our website or social media pages.

Upon identifying the breach, MOG’s IT and security teams immediately:

  • Secured the affected account and revoked all unauthorized access.
  • Engaged with WhatsApp’s security and compliance teams to conduct a full investigation.
  • Implemented enhanced authentication and monitoring measures to prevent future incidents.

We have also lodged/in process of official reports with the relevant Malaysian cybersecurity and law enforcement authorities, including:

  • CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM)
  • Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) – Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID)
  • Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

These steps are part of our commitment to maintaining transparency and ensuring the highest level of data security for our customers and business partners.

Our Commitment to Data Protection

At MOG Eyewear, safeguarding the privacy and trust of our community remains our top priority.We deeply regret any confusion or concern this incident may have caused. We wish to clarify that approximately 7,000 messages were sent to contacts from an external database only. Our internal systems and customer database remain fully secure, and the issue was strictly limited to unauthorized access of the WhatsApp account.

We will continue to strengthen our digital security measures and collaborate with relevant authorities and platforms to ensure the continued protection of our stakeholders.
